Blurred is a yearly series of hybrid sour beers made with whole cluster wine grapes by The Rare Barrel, an award-winning brewery in Berkeley, CA.
David Singer-Smith led a redesign of both the bottle format and label to give a stronger a nod to the beer’s wine-like nature.
Packaging & Illustration
Somewhere between
a beer and a wine.
BLURRED is a series of beers released yearly that are brewed with whole cluster wine grapes. After a few years in production, The Rare Barrel wanted to update the packaging in an effort to differentiate from their standard beer releases and convey the wine-style brews inside. Building off of the brand’s existing Victorian-style illustrations, the new labels utilize bright colors and distorted collages made with an old analog tool – the desktop scanner.
The asymmetric labels and the new bottle format let the various hues of beer shine and feels more at home in the wine aisle.
